How to Buy HBR-B04: Terms, Packing and Documents

The 220 class is the grade specified for screw compressors running in medium and high temperature duty, so it is bought repeatedly rather than once. Everything below is published rather than negotiated line by line: the pack size, the price terms, the payment terms and the document set are the same for a trial order as for a full container. The minimum order is the one figure that moves with the order rather than being fixed in advance — the grade, the quantity, the pack size, the shipping terms and the container load all move it, so a single pail and a full container load are both workable and neither is treated as the normal case. Give us the quantity, the destination port and whether your own artwork goes on the pail, and the table below turns into a firm quotation. The technical data sheet and safety data sheet travel with the quotation; the certificate of analysis for the delivered batch travels with the shipment.

Is HBR-B04 the Right Grade for Your System?

A Good Fit For

  • HANBELL screw compressors running in air conditioning and heat pump duty — the application the cross-reference table names for this class
  • Systems on R134a, R407C or R507 — the refrigerants named on the HANBELL HBR-B04 data sheet
  • Compressors whose documentation specifies a POE oil in the 220 viscosity class
  • Medium and high temperature systems where the 68, 120 or 170 class is too light
  • OEM retrofit work on HANBELL rotary screw compressors, which is the application the data sheet is written for
  • Service fills and replacement charges where the original oil was a POE of comparable viscosity, following the compressor maker’s flushing procedure

Not the Right Grade For

  • Compressors specifying a lighter class — HBR-B12 is the 32 class, HBR-B05 the 68 class, HBR-B08 the 120 class and HBR-B09 the 170 class
  • Systems whose refrigerant is outside the list on the HANBELL data sheet for this grade (R134a, R407C and R507) — R22, R404A and R410A are not on it, so ask us to confirm before substituting
  • Automotive air conditioning compressors, which take a PAG oil
  • Systems whose documentation calls for mineral or alkylbenzene oil rather than an ester — HBR-B03 is an alkylbenzene grade and HBR-A01 a mineral grade, so neither is interchangeable with HBR-B04
  • Compressors under a warranty that names the original oil, unless the manufacturer has approved the substitution in writing

Before you order: send us the compressor model and the oil you are replacing. We check the viscosity class and base oil type against the data sheet and confirm the equivalent grade before quoting — that is the same process we apply when a buyer is moving from another brand.

What Else Can We Handle for Your Project?

A lubricant order is rarely only a lubricant order. The buyer is usually solving a grade question, an import documentation question, a freight question and a packaging question at the same time — often across more than one product family. Those are the parts of the job we take on, and they are handled by the same team that quotes the oil rather than passed to a third party.

We are a manufacturer rather than a reseller, which is what makes that possible. The blending plant in Foshan, Guangdong runs at 6,000 tonnes a year and has been producing lubricants for more than ten years, so the answer to most of the questions below comes out of our own production and our own paperwork.

What you are dealing withWhat we do about it
You are not sure which grade replaces the oil you are runningSend the compressor or unit model, the refrigerant and the oil being replaced. We confirm the equivalent grade and the changeover procedure before you order, and we put the confirmation in writing so it can be checked against the specification.
You need a grade that is not a catalogue itemWe formulate in-house. Ester base oils and additive packages are produced at our own plant, so a viscosity class or a property target can be matched rather than taken from whatever a distributor happens to hold in stock.
Your customer wants their own brand on the pailOEM and ODM are handled end to end — pail artwork, pack format and material selection — so the shipment carries your label. Private-label work is quoted as a project rather than charged as a surcharge line.
You are buying across several oil familiesRefrigeration oils sit alongside air compressor oils, vacuum pump oils, hydraulic oils, gear oils and engine oils on the same production site. A mixed enquiry can be quoted, packed and shipped together instead of being split across suppliers.
Import clearance needs documentationEvery order ships with a technical data sheet, a safety data sheet and a batch certificate of analysis. Export documents — CE, certificate of origin, MSDS and the transport identification report — are issued as standard, not on request.
Your quality system needs independent verificationThird-party testing can be arranged on the batch you actually receive — through SGS or another accredited laboratory — and the report is issued against that batch. Where an external report is a condition of purchase, it is built into the order rather than handled afterwards.
Freight is the number that decides the dealWe quote against your destination port on any Incoterms 2020 term — EXW, FOB, CFR, CIF, DDP and every other rule — and arrange sea, land, air or express movement. Ask for the CIF or DDP figure to your port — that is the one comparable with a domestic supplier's price.
You want to hold stock locally instead of buying container by containerWe are recruiting distributors in selected markets and offer market protection to partners who commit to a territory, with technical support and documentation supplied from the plant.

None of this runs through a separate service department. The same technical contact stays with an account from the first grade question through to repeat orders, which is why a reorder does not start the conversation over again.

If what you need is not described here, send the application rather than the product — the unit, the refrigerant, the operating temperatures and the volume — and we will tell you whether we can make it and what it would take.

How to Order HBR-B04

Grade confirmation comes before pricing, because a wrong viscosity class is the mistake that costs a compressor. The sequence is the same whether you are buying one pail or a full container:

  1. Send us the compressor or unit model, the refrigerant, the oil currently in the system and the quantity you need.
  2. We check the viscosity class and base oil type against the HANBELL data sheet and confirm whether HBR-B04, or our equivalent QSL-220H, is the right grade for that application.
  3. We quote against your destination port on any Incoterms 2020 term (EXW, FOB, CFR, CIF, DDP and every other rule), with the pack size and the lead time for that quantity.
  4. The technical data sheet and safety data sheet come with the quotation, and a certificate of analysis for the delivered batch comes with the shipment.

If you already know the grade and only need a price, send the quantity and the destination port and we will quote directly.

These are the typical characteristics published on the HANBELL HBR-B04 product data sheet (document RC-HBR-B04-5G, revised 2024-02-26), determined by ASTM D445 (kinematic viscosity), ASTM D2161 (Saybolt viscosity), ASTM D2270 (viscosity index), ASTM D4052 (density and specific gravity, by the Gardner method), ASTM D92 (flash and fire point), ASTM D97 (pour point) and ASTM D877 (dielectric strength). Two notes on reading this table. First, the data sheet itself states that these values are not intended for use in preparing specifications, and that each application is different and an oil cooler may be required — worth checking before a retrofill. Second, on the ISO question: 216 cSt does fall inside the ISO VG 220 band of 198–242 cSt defined by DIN ISO 3448, so where this grade is labelled “ISO VG 220” that is consistent with the measured value — but HANBELL itself does not assign a VG number, so compare grades on the measured 40 °C viscosity rather than on the label.

Where Does HBR-B04 Sit in the HANBELL HBR Range?

Viscosity class and base oil type are the two selection criteria that matter first. The table below shows where each POE grade in the HBR-B series falls, with the duty each one is specified for.

GradeViscosity classTypical duty
HANBELL HBR-B12ISO VG 32Centrifugal compressors
HANBELL HBR-B0566.3 cSt at 40 °CMedium and low temperature screw compressors
HANBELL HBR-B08127.7 cSt at 40 °CHFC screw compressor duty in air conditioning and industrial refrigeration

HANBELL HBR-B01ISO VG 320Air-cooled and flooded screw compressors — the heaviest grade in the series

The HBR grades differ in base stock: HBR-B03 is an alkylbenzene grade and HBR-A01 a mineral grade, so neither is interchangeable with the POE grades above. Confirm the class against the compressor manufacturer’s specification before substituting one grade for another.

Which Oils Can Replace HBR-B04?

If your compressor is already in service, you probably hold a data sheet for a different brand at the same viscosity class. These are the oils the Qishanr cross-reference table pairs with HBR-B04, with Qishanr QSL-220H as our own equivalent:

BrandGradeNote
QishanrQSL-220HOur equivalent grade in the same viscosity class
HANBELLHBR-B04The grade this page covers
EmkarateRL220HPOE, 220 class
SunisoSL220POE, 220 class
Solest220POE, 220 class
York / FrickWPOE, 220 class
FushengFS220RPOE, 220 class

A cross-reference is the starting point for a specification review — confirm the final choice against the compressor manufacturer’s approved oil list for your model and refrigerant. This row of the table is shorter than the rows for the lighter grades, and it carries no BITZER entry: for this viscosity class the table lists only the six brands above. The same table documents this class as suitable for screw compressors operating under air conditioning and heat pump working conditions. Our own equivalent is Qishanr QSL-220H.

What HBR-B04 Is, and Why the Base Oil Matters

HANBELL HBR-B04 is a synthetic polyol ester (POE) oil, not a mineral oil, and that distinction decides whether the oil works at all. HFC refrigerants are not miscible with mineral oil, so a mineral charge in an R134a or R407C circuit does not travel with the refrigerant — oil collects in the evaporator and the compressor sump runs dry. POE is miscible with HFC refrigerants, so the oil circulates through the circuit and returns to the sump. The HANBELL data sheet describes HBR-B04 as a synthetic polyolester lubricant for HANBELL screw compressors installed in air conditioning and industrial refrigeration equipment, and recommends it for OEM retrofitting applications in equipment using HANBELL rotary screw compressors, per factory standards matched to the conditions and refrigerant specified.

The viscosity class matters for the same practical reason. At 216 cSt at 40 °C, HBR-B04 sits above the 32, 68, 120 and 170 classes and below the 320 class used in flooded applications. Choosing a lighter oil than the compressor specification calls for thins the film at the bearings; choosing a heavier one raises the drag and the discharge temperature. The measured 40 °C viscosity, not the trade label, is the number to compare. The data sheet also notes that each application is different and that an oil cooler may be required — worth checking before a retrofill.

Mixing: oils of the same type and viscosity are compatible and can be mixed. If you do not know what is currently in the system, send us the compressor model and we will confirm the equivalent grade and the correct changeover procedure before you order.

Original HANBELL Oil, or a QISHANR Equivalent?

The two supply options exist for different jobs. The original HANBELL product is the right choice where the compressor is still under warranty, where the specification names HANBELL explicitly, or where the manufacturer’s approval has to be documented. Our own Qishanr QSL-220H is the same POE viscosity class, blended at our plant in Foshan, China, and it is the option that makes sense for top-up and replacement work on an out-of-warranty system where landed cost decides the order.

We supply both, so the comparison is made on your application rather than on what we happen to stock. Send the compressor model, the refrigerant and the volume, and the quote will carry both options with the same documentation package behind them. If you are already running a different brand at this viscosity class — an Emkarate RL220H or a Suniso SL220, for example — send the model and we will confirm the equivalent before you commit.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Is there a minimum order for HBR-B04, and what pack size is available?

A: HBR-B04 ships in 5 US gallon (18.9 L) pails, the pack size listed on the HANBELL data sheet. There is no fixed minimum order — it is confirmed per order, because it depends on the pack size, the quantity and the destination, and a single pail and a full container load are both workable. In practice the quantity is rarely the only variable: the shipping terms and the container load move the figure as well, so we quote against the order rather than against a price list. Custom pack formats and private-label artwork are available as a quotation item, so if your own label has to go on the pail, say so when you enquire and it is quoted as part of the project rather than added afterwards.

Q: Do you supply the original HANBELL oil, or your own equivalent?

A: Both, and the choice is usually straightforward. We can supply the original HANBELL HBR-B04, and we also manufacture the equivalent grade ourselves: Qishanr QSL-220H, a polyol ester in the same viscosity class, produced at our blending plant in Foshan, China. Take the original where the compressor is still under warranty or where the specification names HANBELL explicitly. Take the equivalent for top-up and replacement work on a system that is out of warranty, where landed cost is the deciding factor. Send us the compressor model and the application and we will quote both.

Q: What price and payment terms apply?

A: We quote against your destination port on any Incoterms 2020 term — EXW, FOB, CFR, CIF, DDP and every other rule — and we accept any commonly used payment method, including T/T, L/C and PayPal. Three things decide the number: the quantity, the destination port and the pack size — a full pallet of pails prices differently from a single pail, because the freight and handling change. Send those three and we will come back with a firm price rather than a range. If you are comparing us against a local distributor, ask for the CIF or DDP figure to your port: that is the comparable one, because it includes the freight that a domestic price leaves out.

Q: What documents come with an order?

A: Each order is issued with a technical data sheet, a safety data sheet and a certificate of analysis for the delivered batch, so the values on this page can be checked against the actual shipment. Export documents — CE, certificate of origin, MSDS and the transport identification report — are issued as standard rather than on request, which matters when the consignment has to clear customs on a schedule.

Q: What type of oil is HANBELL HBR-B04?

A: HANBELL HBR-B04 is a synthetic polyol ester (POE) refrigeration oil with a measured viscosity of 216 cSt at 40 °C. POE is the oil family used with HFC refrigerants because those refrigerants are not miscible with mineral oil. At 216 cSt the figure falls inside the ISO VG 220 band of 198–242 cSt, so the common “ISO VG 220” label is consistent with the measurement — but HANBELL does not assign a VG number, so the measured 40 °C viscosity is the number to compare.

Q: Which refrigerants and compressors is it used with?

A: The HANBELL HBR-B04 data sheet lists R134a, R407C and R507, and describes the oil as a polyolester lubricant designed for HANBELL screw compressors installed in air conditioning and industrial refrigeration equipment. It does not list R22, R404A or R410A. The Qishanr cross-reference table documents this class as suitable for screw compressors operating under air conditioning and heat pump working conditions.

Q: Which oils can replace HBR-B04, or which grade replaces mine?

A: Emkarate RL220H, Suniso SL220, Solest 220, York/Frick W and Fusheng FS220R all sit in the same viscosity class, and our own equivalent is Qishanr QSL-220H. This row of the cross-reference table is shorter than the rows for the lighter grades and carries no BITZER entry, so if the oil you are replacing is not on it, send us the compressor or unit model and we will confirm the equivalent grade after checking the specification.

Q: Can I top up without flushing if I do not know which oil is in the system?

A: Oils of the same type and viscosity can be mixed. If the existing oil type or its condition is unknown, follow the compressor manufacturer’s procedure, which normally means flushing the circuit and restoring the oil charge with the specified grade before evacuation and recharge.

Key Takeaways

  • HANBELL HBR-B04 is a synthetic POE refrigeration oil with a measured viscosity of 216 cSt at 40 °C, for HANBELL screw compressors in air conditioning and industrial refrigeration equipment.
  • The data sheet lists R134a, R407C and R507. It does not list R404A or R410A.
  • 216 cSt falls inside the ISO VG 220 band (198–242 cSt), so the common “ISO VG 220” label is consistent with the measurement — but HANBELL assigns no VG number, so compare grades on the measured 40 °C viscosity.
  • Cross-references: Emkarate RL220H, Suniso SL220, Solest 220, York/Frick W, Fusheng FS220R, and Qishanr QSL-220H. This class has no BITZER entry on the cross-reference table.
  • Supplied in 5 US gallon (18.9 L) pails. No fixed minimum order — the figure is confirmed per order. Any Incoterms 2020 term (EXW, FOB, CFR, CIF, DDP and others), any commonly used payment method (T/T, L/C, PayPal and others).
  • Available as the original HANBELL product, or as Qishanr QSL-220H — the equivalent grade we manufacture at our own plant in Foshan, China.
  • HBR-B03 is alkylbenzene and HBR-A01 is mineral, so neither substitutes for HBR-B04. Send us the compressor model, the refrigerant and the oil you are replacing and we will confirm the grade.

Who Supplies This Oil

This oil is manufactured and supplied by Guangzhou Qishanr Technologies Co., Ltd., trading as the brand QISHANR. The company is based in Foshan, Guangdong, adjacent to Guangzhou Port, and has been producing lubricants for more than 10 years from its own blending plant. That plant runs at an annual capacity of 6,000 tonnes, which is what allows us to hold stock on the grades we list and quote firm lead times rather than promising on behalf of a third party.

  • Company: Guangzhou Qishanr Technologies Co., Ltd.
  • Brand: QISHANR
  • Location: Foshan, Guangdong, China
  • Nearest port: Guangzhou
  • Experience: 10+ years
  • Own plant: 6,000 tonnes per year

What We Manufacture

Refrigeration oils are the core of the business, but they are not the whole plant. The same lines produce general industrial lubricants, so a mixed enquiry that covers both refrigeration oils and ordinary industrial grades can be quoted, packed and shipped together instead of being split across suppliers.

This is not the full range. Specialised ester base oils and lubricant additives are produced in-house as well, which is the reason the synthetic ester grades can be specified to a target rather than bought off a shelf. If the grade you need is not listed above, send the specification or the product you are replacing and we will confirm whether we produce it.
